Gavin Brady doesn't race the Swedish Match Tour
very often, but when he does he enjoys success.
Brady has competed in 17 regattas on the Tour since
2000 and has finished either second or third in
10 of them.
He has finished outside of the top eight only once,
meaning that he has scored points on the championship
leaderboard in 16 events. Despite not having won
a Tour event, Brady is one of its most consistent
performers.
Brady is one of the few skippers to pull off back-to-back
victories at the Congressional Cup. He accomplished
the feat in 1996 and '97. He was steamrolling to
a victory in the 2003 event, but ran off course
in the Final, losing to Read, 2-1.
In one-design racing, Brady has an affinity for
the Star, the thinking man's one-design class.
With many control lines, a spindly mast and a hull
that requires the crew hike over the rail, just
inches off the water, the Star has a reputation
for proving a champion's worth. If you can win
in the Star class, you can win in any class.
Brady narrowly missed out winning the 2001 World
Championship. He lost by one point, despite winning
the last race. He also placed seventh at the 2000
Star Worlds, and 9th in the class at the 2000 Sydney
Olympics.
Brady has joined Oracle BMW Racing for America's
Cup 2007 as an afterguard member. |
